Queer Narratives Where and how are the queer communities’ interpretations of the sport reflected during the games? We had publicly queer ministers and public representations, but not a single male acitve football player has come out. At Dynamo Windrad we inflate the rainbow and watch queer fans, players and professionals narratives.

Collectivity wins Every now and again, nations without individual stars win the tournament. They are then called a ‘team’ and the collective effort is emphasized. The individual bodies of the players become part of a collective body. Collectivity has a high reputation in sports. But does the collective effort of horizontal communities outside the game get the recognition it deserves? Day two of FUSSBALLABALLA goes to the streets and through the stories of today’s host Streetbolzer e. V., we tell stories of collective resistance and gaining recognition against all odds.

What colour to wear The constellation of the national teams tells a story of the recent and more distant history of the participating countries. Most national teams consist of players from at least three or four different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Who will play for which country is sometimes a question of historical fate, offers, opportunities, or lack of national feelings, as well as a progressive accumulation of trade of talent based on nationality? David Zabel, cultural creator at Randfilm and Streetbolzer, guided us through the teams and the matches, gave us insights into the backroom rules of the game.

Fire from within Whenever football fans or players navigate into the field of political activism, the terrain gets rough, there are traps and the view is foggy (no bengalos involved). Fifa and UEFA try to keep politics out of the big tournaments, as was the case most recently with the rainbow lighting discussion in Munich. But can a public gathering of people, as players and fans, be entirely apolitical? Does football only unite for the sake of football? When Dynamo Windrad Kassel came to life in 1982 they just wanted to play football, without too much ambition and airplay’ and fun as the leading principles. Their name, hinting towards GDR team names, confessed where they see themselves: a little left and a little alternative, which was enough for a ban on their clubs name, court rulings, revisions and nationwide press coverage. They did not fit in, came out of the conflict even stronger, and are stillfighting for fairness in soccer. German Satiricus Thomas Gsella talked us through the games and activism.

Every tournament needs a grande finale with grand singing. While UEFA prefers Andrea Bocelli and other mainstream superstars, we prefer our next door superstar, or rather the star in yourself… Join us for the grande drag karaoke - we’ll sing the athems of horizontal communities from around the world, while we dress up - proper drag style!
